Welcome. “How
young are we when we start wondering about it all, the nature of life’s journey
and of the final destination,” writes
Pulitzer Prize author Robert
Coles. Children
are spiritual beings who already have a relationship with God. Children can hear Bible
stories
in a way that allows them to enter into the story and form responses out of
their own life experiences. When we
understand
that
children already have a relationship with God, we can no longer assume that we
need to teach children everything they need to
know
about God. In the presence of children,
we come face to face with the idea of God in a way that is fearless, outspoken
and
profound.
This
understanding of children gives us a glimpse into what Jesus might have meant
when he said we must become like
children
in order to enter God’s realm.
Children
experience and express their impressions of God through play, art and
music. Worship & Wonder provides an
environment
where
children can enjoy learning in ways that express the mystery, awe and wonder of
God through their own imaginations. God
seen
through the eyes of children – what a wonderful perspective!
2008-09 Program: What we know about
God is that we hardly know anything of Him, except what He has revealed to
us. God is
mystery. Not simply a riddle, for riddles can
eventually be solved – some sooner, some later.
That God is mystery means that we
cannot
solve the problem of knowing who God is completely. “Can’st thou by searching find out God? We might reply, “not yet” –
the
Bible replies “not ever.” God’s
revelation of Himself sometimes occurs in a way that manifests itself in our
imagination. A
child’s
imagination can be a fruitful harvest for a revelation of the mystery,
wonder and majesty of God.
