Welcome. Our values are the underlying beliefs and
principles upon which we base our opinions, decisions, and actions. Values help us to
understand
what is fundamentally important to us and why we do the things we do. Memorial Christian Church has spent some
time
exploring
more deeply how we understand our identity as the Church of Jesus Christ. Our understanding of the mission of the
church and
our
particular vision for being the church in the world is determined by the values
each person holds. Sometimes we aren’t
clear about
what we
should be doing or where we should be heading.
The values that define what is good and worthwhile for Memorial Christian
Church
includes:
• We
believe that “God
is in charge,” but we have to say “YES!” We believe in Christ’s mission of inviting,
reconciliation, justice, peace,
serving,
forgiving and thanking. It drives who we
are, who we become, what we say and do.
• We
believe that we should try to do everything we can to not only strengthen and
transform our congregation, but seek to expand and
extend God’s kingdom
and reign, here and now.
• We
believe that the local church is the hope of the world. The Christian faith is meant to be lived out
in community, as Jesus modeled
in his life
together with his disciples. And, with
all its shortcomings and challenges, it is still the local church that God has chosen as the
vehicle
through which Christ is made known to the world.
• We
believe that Christ
has transformed us so that we may lead transforming lives. We have no higher calling as Christians. We are
continue
to seek to be a church that reflects the mission of our Savior – eagerly
awaiting the coming of the Holy Spirit and having
confidence
in the person and character of God.
• We
believe the world is in need of the life-giving love of Jesus Christ. We are called to love, to care for and build up God’s
people –
all people.
The markers of our values are, of course,
our behaviors. Values reveal the
principles by which we are actually living.
The familiar
admonition
to “walk the talk” means reflecting our values in our actions as a church in
which Jesus Christ is the head and as the
people
of God. Discipleship for Memorial
Christian Church is not about having others follow us as much as it is about
lifting others
up
to see the Lord and then serving them so they can follow Christ wholeheartedly.
