Job Title: Service & Learning Coordinator

Reports to: Pastor of Memorial Christian Church (MCC)

FLSA Status: Hourly/Part-time

Assigned to: Christian Education Committee and Mission Commission


Job Position Summary: The Service and Learning Coordinator will work to design, develop, oversee and implement a service and learning ministry. The coordinator will help the church to partner with agencies, students and young adults to develop mutually beneficial service activities and experiences.


Duties and Responsibilities include the following and others as assigned:


Plan, organize and supervise activities to connect college students and young adults/families with appropriate service opportunities. Recruit people to participate in the program.


Seek grant funding support for the ministry and program. Prepare and submit grant proposals .


Plan and teach a class (weekly or bi-monthly) for college young adults on faith and service.


Develop and maintain accurate information on community organizations. This includes going on site visits to community agencies throughout the year. Keep and monitor accurate records regarding service learners’ experiences with the program.


Perform administrative tasks: track and report on program expenses; prepare correspondence and follow-up

on calls and visits from interested participants and agencies. Contribute articles to MCC’s newsletter, website and other media to share successes and developments in service learning community partnerships, as well as, create special program announcements or advertisements.


Adhere to all policies and procedures of MCC


Skills/Knowledge/Ability:


Ability to develop collaborative partnerships between diverse groups of people. Commitment to cultivating social responsibility and an ethic of civic engagement, both personally and professionally.


Ability to plan, develop and implement program activities and events. Also requires the ability to coordinate the efforts of a group of people.


Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills, as well as, effective time management skills. Punctual to work and able to complete work and tasks on time.


Ability to exercise a high level of independent thinking, leadership and creativity, including being proactive and taking initiative. Ability to prioritize multiple job demands and problem solve with minimal direct supervision.


Most importantly, the ability to help articulate and make real a vision of God’s dream of lives committed to meeting the needs of people in our community and even around the world; and nurturing a desire in students and young people to serve God by serving God’s people.


Position Requirements:


High school diploma or equivalent. Attending college-level classes or teaching experience preferred

Experience with Michigan area non-profit organizations and community agencies preferred
