SEASON OF PRAYER:

The Administrative Council approved, on Tuesday, a recommendation from Pastor Green, calling for a 100 day SEASON OF PRAYER for our congregation. The dates will be from May 24th through August 31. We urge every member and friend to take this call seriously and personally. Prayer works when people truly engage it. We have much to focus this intentional prayer on, during this period. Pray for our involvement in "New Beginnings", our trip to New Orleans, our region, our finances, the pastor's trip to Haiti, our sick, our children, and many other concerns. We ask that every group and individual engage in this SEASON OF PRAYER.

MISSION TRIP:

The Mission Commission and Christian Education teams are planning a mission trip to New Orleans in August 2009. We hope to take a group of high school students and adults to help support disaster recovery efforts in that area. You will find a flyer on the bulletin board with additional information. Please let us know if you might be interested in participating in this special service initiative. We will be having an informational meeting in May to provide additional material regarding our plans and discuss fund raising opportunities. GIVE A GIFT FROM YOUR IRA

While the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 (better known as "the bailout bill") has been widely discussed, one element which is important for non-profits and our donors has not yet made its way to the forefront. Included in the October 3 legislation is the extension of the IRA Charitable Rollover. Several Global Ministries donors took advantage of this charitable option in 2007 -- and the option has now been extended to 2008 and 2009. This extension allows individuals ages 70 1/2 and older to donate up to $100,000 annually from their IRAs directly to a charity such as Global Ministries without having to pay income taxes on the money.
